Nana Sam Brew-Butler, a former Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has made a generous donation of over 300 books on diabetes to the School of Medical Sciences-UCC. The books, titled “Let’s Talk Diabetes,” were written by his niece, Dr. Yakoba Atiase, an expert in diabetes management and prevention.

The donation ceremony took place at the H.N. Amonoo-Koufie Medical Village, where Nana Brew-Butler handed over the books to the Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Prof. Sebastian Eliason. Nana Brew-Butler said that he was motivated by his niece’s passion and expertise in diabetes, which is a major health challenge in Ghana and worldwide.

He said that he hoped that the books would help the medical students to learn more about diabetes and how to treat and prevent it. He also encouraged them to cultivate a reading culture and keep themselves updated on the latest medical research and developments.

Prof. Eliason expressed his gratitude to Nana Brew-Butler for his kind gesture and assured him that the books would be put to good use by the students and faculty.

He said that the School of Medical Sciences was committed to producing competent and compassionate doctors who would serve the health needs of the nation and beyond. He also invited Nana Brew-Butler to visit the school anytime and interact with the students and staff.

The School of Medical Sciences-UCC is one of the leading medical schools in Ghana, established under the College of Allied Health. It has state-of-the-art facilities and a conducive learning environment for its students.

The donor and the recipients posed together for a picture after the donation event.

Final Thoughts

I think this is a great example of how education and philanthropy can work together to improve the health and well-being of people. Diabetes is a serious condition that affects millions of people around the world, and it requires proper diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. By donating these books, Nana Brew-Butler has not only shown his support for his niece’s work, but also his commitment to the development of medical education and research in Ghana.
