University Of Cape Coast Graduates 2,559 Postgraduates, Urges Innovation And Job Creation

A total of 2,559 students from various postgraduate programmes graduated during the 57th Congregation of the University of Cape Coast (UCC). This milestone event celebrated the academic achievements of students across diverse disciplines.

The graduating class comprised 93 PhD, 240 MPhil, 34 MCom, 4 Master of Nursing (MN), 532 Master of Education (MEd), and 607 Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates. Additionally, there were 10 Executive MBA, 281 Master of Science (M.Sc), 254 Master of Arts (M.A), 85 Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), 2 Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and 4 Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies graduates.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, commended the graduates for their hard work and perseverance. She encouraged them to apply their knowledge and skills towards entrepreneurship and societal transformation.

“We have no doubt that we have empowered you with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on society and the world at large. It is our hope that you will not wait for government employment but instead go out there and create jobs,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor’s address also emphasized the University’s commitment to postgraduate research, expressing gratitude to the Brew Butler family for their contributions to the establishment of a research fund in 2014.

“The fund has brought relief to a number of postgraduate students. From 2017 to 2024, the number of beneficiaries increased from 27 to 403, with the highest beneficiary receiving GH₵5,000. Aside this, there is also a special grant designated to support PhD students in their research work. In this category those who qualify are awarded GH¢10,000,” she noted.

To further enhance academic output, the University’s Graduate School has implemented an electronic thesis and dissertation submission platform. This innovation is aimed at streamlining the research process and ensuring efficient submission and review of postgraduate work.

Highlighting the broader vision of the University, Prof. Boohene reiterated the institution’s dedication to producing graduates with strong ethical grounding and a commitment to societal advancement. She urged the graduates to find innovative ways of conducting business and leveraging their expertise to drive positive change.

The ceremony also featured symbolic moments, including the robing of PhD graduates, which underscored the dedication and academic excellence of the graduates.
