Trump Administration Releases Thousands Of Newly Declassified JFK Assassination Files

John F. Kennedy, 35th president of the United States

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) announced today the complete release of approximately 80,000 pages of previously-classified documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

According to the March 18, 2025 news release (ODNI News Release No. 04-25), President Donald Trump has fulfilled his promise to "rebuild the trust of the American people in the Intelligence Community and federal agencies" by ordering the unrestricted release of these long-classified records.

"President Trump's Executive Order 14175 stated, 'The continued redaction and withholding of information from records pertaining to the assassination of JFK is not consistent with the public interest and the release of these records is long overdue,'" the release states.

Director of National Intelligence Mark Gabbard has issued a directive across the Intelligence Community mandating the immediate provision of all unredacted records from the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) for public access.

Accessing the Records

Starting today, these documents will be accessible through two primary channels:

  1. Online at archives.gov/jfk
  2. In person at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland

Documents currently available only for in-person viewing are being digitized and will be uploaded to the archives website progressively over the coming days. Director Gabbard will announce the publication of these files on X (@DNIGabbard) and the official White House social media channels (@WhiteHouseGov).

What's in the Release

The release includes approximately 80,000 pages that will be published without redactions. Additional documents withheld under court seal or for grand jury secrecy must undergo review pursuant to section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code before release.

NARA is collaborating with the Department of Justice to expedite this unsealing process. The release notes that many files from these cases "have already been seen by so most of this information is already out, but regardless of this, this information will be unsealed, too."

News Release By ODNI

This move is an important turning point in the decades-long struggle to bring complete openness to one of America's most controversial historical events.
