President Mahama Names Sammy Gyamfi As Acting PMMC Managing Director

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. as Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), marking a significant step toward reforming Ghana's minerals sector. The appointment, announced Thursday (Jan 16, 2025), positions Gyamfi to lead the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a cornerstone initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration's economic agenda.

Under the Ministry of Finance's direction, Gyamfi will spearhead the creation of GoldBod, designed to revolutionize the management and marketing of Ghana's gold resources. The board's primary objectives include formalizing the small-scale mining sector and implementing comprehensive support services for the industry.

Gyamfi's appointment brings a robust combination of environmental and legal expertise to the role. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, complemented by a Barrister at Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law. His credentials are further distinguished by an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana and executive certificates from Harvard Kennedy School's Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership Programmes.

Prior to this appointment, Gyamfi served at Exton Cubic Group Limited, a leading mining company in Ghana. His role as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress demonstrates his capability in managing complex stakeholder relationships.
