Ghanaian Afrobeats Star, Gyakie Releases "Rent Free"

Gyakie, the Ghanaian Afro-Fusion/Afrobeats artist, and the daughter of the legendary highlife musician Nana Acheampong, has released her much-anticipated single of the year. It's a musical journey that resonates with me as a music lover and blogger, and I believe you'll find it equally captivating. Titled "Rent Free," this song not only carries a catchy and lively tune but also celebrates the enchanting power of love. As it gently seeps into our hearts and thoughts, Gyakie's music is a reminder that love can occupy our minds without demanding a single dime in rent."

On October 25, 2023, 'Rent Free' made its debut, and just six days later, on October 31, 2023, the official music video graced our screens.

This musical masterpiece was produced by the renowned Ghanaian producer EYRAM GBEWONYO, also known as AFROLEKTRA. The track features Gyakie's distinctive smooth and soulful vocals, complemented by engaging hooks and melodies that will have you grooving along.

Notably, the song's lyrical prowess is credited to Jackline Nana Yaa Acheampong (Gyakie) herself. The lyrics of "Rent Free" revolve around themes of trust, connection, and intimacy. The singer expresses a deep emotional bond with her partner, highlighting the profound trust they share. Lines like "Don't break me, Don't use me, Don't lose me, Don't leave me in the dark" convey vulnerability and a plea for understanding and support within the relationship.

The repeated phrase "You are living inside my head, Rent free, baby" beautifully encapsulates the idea that the person being addressed occupies the singer's thoughts effortlessly, without any cost – symbolizing an unbreakable connection. The video has already taken YouTube by storm, amassing over 190K views and garnering praise from both fans and critics. Gyakie's versatility and creativity shine through, underscoring her ability to create songs that resonate with a diverse audience.


Gyakie's journey in the music industry has been nothing short of phenomenal. The vocalist began her music career in early 2019 while a student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where she bagged her BSc. in International Business. Since her debut with "Love is Pretty," she has consistently made waves. Her hit song "Forever" from her 2020/2021 EP "Seed" went viral across Africa and beyond, even earning her a remix with Nigerian star Omah Lay.

Some her achievements include partnering with Apple Music for their Africa Rising campaign, earning the Emerging Woman of the Year award at the 3Music Women’s Brunch for the 3Music Awards in Ghana in 2021. To cement her global appeal, Gyakie signed an international record deal with Sony Music Entertainment, RCA Records UK, and Sony Music Africa in March 2021, solidifying her status as a promising artist in the Afrobeats scene.
