Build a Boat has quickly become one of the fastest-rising hits in Dixon’s career, connecting with audiences through its powerful narrative and uplifting message. The music video shares the remarkable journey of twin brothers, Ousseynou and Assane, who underwent life-changing surgery aboard one of the Mercy Ships vessels, Africa Mercy.
At a young age, the twins suffered from severe bowing of their legs, a condition that worsened over time due to a lack of access to the necessary medical treatment. The boys’ mother was left feeling hopeless until a local nurse informed her that Mercy Ships was coming to the coast of Senegal. In a courageous act of love, she drove the family over 200 miles to the floating hospital for the life-changing surgery that would give her sons the ability to walk with straight legs.
Today, Ousseynou and Assane are walking tall and proud, and their story serves as a beacon of hope for other families facing similar struggles.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Dixon shared, “Writing Build a Boat had an immediate connection with Mercy Ships, given they build hospital ships. But beyond that, I love their mission. As a parent of twins myself, including our daughter Ava Dior, who was born without a pulse and needed immediate medical attention, this cause hits especially close to home. It's an honour to help provide life-saving healthcare to children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to it.”
Dixon continued, “We prayed as doctors and nurses brought our daughter back to life. This song is all about having faith, and it means a lot that we can extend that hope to others around the world.”
