Tom MacDonald Releases "Facts" Feat. Ben Shapiro

Tom MacDonald and Ben Shapiro

A new rap song by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro and Canadian rapper Tom MacDonald has taken the internet by storm, reaching the number one spot on the iTunes charts in the U.S. and globally.

The song, titled "Facts", is a collaboration between two outspoken critics of the mainstream hip-hop culture, who deliver a barrage of controversial opinions on topics such as race, gender, politics, and religion.

Shapiro, who is best known for his podcast "The Ben Shapiro Show" and his slogan "Facts don't care about your feelings", makes his musical debut on the track, rapping alongside MacDonald, who has gained a loyal fan base with his independent and often provocative songs.

The song was released on January 26, 2024, and quickly climbed to the top of the iTunes charts, surpassing popular artists such as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, and Taylor Swift.

The song's success has surprised many, given Shapiro's previous dismissal of rap as not being music, and his lack of experience in the genre. In a 2012 tweet, Shapiro wrote: "Rap is not music. And if you think it is, you're stupid."

However, Shapiro seems to have changed his tune, as he expressed his satisfaction with the song and his collaboration with MacDonald on social media.

"We're now #1 overall on iTunes, too," Shapiro wrote. "@IAMTOMMACDONALD and I have officially made hip-hop great again, as was always my lifelong dream."

"I just want to thank God, [Tom MacDonald], and my parents, who paid for 15 years of classical violin lessons so I could become the #1 rapper in America."

"As a longtime devotee of rap, becoming a rapper was the natural next step in my career trajectory," Shapiro said.

"So, when Tom asked if I wanted to collaborate on a song, I leapt at the chance. This was the moment I spent 20 years of classical violin training preparing for. For those who don't appreciate my artistic stylings, all I can say is that they didn't appreciate Bach properly in his own time, either," he said.

MacDonald, who has been praised and criticised for his songs such as "Fake Woke", "People So Stupid", and "Whiteboy", also shared his enthusiasm for the song and its message.

"I like to do things nobody else can do," MacDonald said.

"Not everybody can get Ben Shapiro on a track. For someone who had never recorded a rap song before, he got in the studio and nailed it. We've both criticised the status quo of hip-hop, so it made sense. There is a good intention at the heart of 'Facts.' There is light."

The song has received mixed reactions from critics and listeners, with some praising its boldness and originality, and others slamming it as offensive and ignorant.

The song has not yet appeared on any Billboard chart, which measures the popularity of songs based on sales, streams, and radio airplay. However, it has generated a lot of buzz and controversy online, which may boost its chances of charting in the future.

"Facts" is written by Tom MacDonald, who also produced the beat. Nova Rockafeller shot and directed the music video. Ben Shapiro was filmed by Zach Guinta, and the visual effects were done by Jared Potter. The song was mixed and mastered by Evan Morgan.

"Facts" Lyrics) by Tom MacDonald Feat. Ben Shapiro

[Verse 1: Tom MacDonald]
They call me offensive, controversial
There's only two genders, boys and girls
They can't cancel my message 'cause I'm
the biggest independent rapper in the whole freaking world
Claim that I'm racist, yeah, alright
I'm not ashamed because I'm white
If every Caucasian's a bigot, I guess every
Muslim's a terrorist, every liberal is right
I don't wanna talk to folks who don't get it (Tss)
Go woke, go broke, no hope, it's pathetic
Pro-choice, pronouns, pro-love, you're progressives
But you ain't pro-gun, no one to protect it
Where the American flags at?
Remember when people would hang those?
They've been taken down, they all been replaced
with BLM flags or a rainbow

[Pre-Chorus: Tom MacDonald]
This ain't rap, this ain't money, cars, and clothes
We ain't sellin' drugs, we ain't gonna overdose
We ain't pushing guns, ain't promoting stripper poles
We won't turn your sons into thugs or your daughters into hoes

[Chorus: Tom MacDonald]
I don't care if I offend you
I was put here to upset you
You can cry and you can scream, you can riot in the streets
You defunded the police, now there's no one to protect you
I hope I offend you
I ask myself, "What would Ben do?"
Let's just keep it real, facts don't care how you feel, man
If you want my pronouns, I'm the man, I'm the man
 who don't respect you

[Verse 2: Ben Shapiro, Ben Shapiro & Tom MacDonald]
Let's look at the stats, I've got the facts
My money like Lizzo, my pockets are fat
Homie, I'm epic, don't be a WAP
Dawg, it's a yarmulke, homie, no cap
Look at the graphs, look at my charts
You're blowing money on strippers and cars
You're going to prison, I'm on television
Dawgs, no one knows who you are
Keep hating on me on the internet
My comments section all woke Karens
And I make racks off compound interest
Y'all live with your parents
Nicki, take some notes, I just did this for fun
All my people download this, let's get a Billboard number one

[Pre-Chorus: Tom MacDonald]
This ain't rap, this ain't money, cars, and clothes
We ain't sellin' drugs, we ain't gonna overdose
We ain't pushing guns and promoting stripper poles
We won't turn your sons into thugs or your daughters into hoes

[Chorus: Tom MacDonald]
I don't care if I offend you
I was put here to upset you
You can cry and you can scream, you can riot in the streets
You defunded the police, now there's no one to protect you
I hope I offend you
I ask myself, "What would Ben do?"
Let's just keep it real, facts don't care how you feel, man
If you want my pronouns, I'm the man, I'm the man who don't respect you
[Bridge: Tom MacDonald]
You mad, you mad, you mad
I guess it's cool to be the victim, well, I'ma be the man
You sad, you sad, you sad
You just try to get attention, being triggered's all you have
You mad, you mad, you mad
You blame everybody else for every problem that you can
You sad, you sad, you sad
I will never say I'm sorry, I ain't taking nothing back

[Chorus: Tom MacDonald]
I don't care if I offend you
I was put here to upset you
You can cry and you can scream, you can riot in the streets
You defunded the police, now there's no one to protect you
I hope I offend you
I ask myself, "What would Ben do?"
Let's just keep it real, facts don't care how you feel, man
If you want my pronouns, I'm the man, I'm the man who don't respect you
