24th VGMA: Black Sherif Wins Artist of The Year Award |
Born Mohammed Ismail Sharrif in Konongo-Zongo, Ashanti Region, Black Sherif rose to prominence in 2021 with his songs "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon." His breakthrough single "Kwaku the Traveller," released in March 2022, topped charts in both Ghana and Nigeria. His debut album, The Villain I Never Was, released in October 2022, garnered significant attention and critical acclaim.
At the VGMA, Black Sherif delivered a well-received performance of his hits "Oh Paradise," "Sad Boys Don't Fold," "Soja," and "Konongo-Zongo," energizing the audience. Nominated in nine categories—Artiste of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste, Best Music Video, Best Reggae/Dancehall Song, Best Afropop Song, Best Hip Hop Song, and Songwriter of the Year—he secured four wins: Artiste of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, Best Hip-hop Song, and Album of the Year.
In his acceptance speech, Black Sherif expressed gratitude to his family, management team, and fans, dedicating his success to his supporters and his hometown of Konongo-Zongo. His wins reflect his growing influence in the music scene.
Black Sherif’s achievements at the 24th VGMA mark a significant moment in his career, establishing him as a key figure in Ghanaian music.
