NSMQ 2024: Mfantsipim School Wins

The 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) concluded with Mfantsipim School taking the championship title, their third in history and first in ten years. Competing against St. Augustine’s College and Keta Senior High Technical School, Mfantsipim emerged victorious at the University of Cape Coast’s New Examination Centre, clinching the top spot by a razor-thin margin.

From the start, the event was charged with school pride and intellectual vigour as each team, cheered on by supporters, aimed for victory. Hosted by Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the competition opened with lighthearted exchanges about each team’s aspirations, but soon ramped up in intensity as the rounds progressed.

By the fifth round, Mfantsipim School held a slight lead. In a nail-biting finish, they answered the final riddle correctly, securing a one-point win over St. Augustine’s College with a score of 47 points. St. Augustine’s College followed with 46 points, while Keta SHTS finished in third with 33 points.

NSMQ 2024: Mfantsipim School Wins

This triumph earned Mfantsipim School the Pepsodent Highest Scorer Award, a GH₵ 10,000 cash prize, and GH₵ 1,000 for a riddle solved during the GOIL Super Bonanza. They were also awarded a GH₵ 30,000 cash prize from the Ghana Education Service, and GOIL PLC contributed GH₵ 20,000 each for the contestants and their teachers. St. Augustine’s College and Keta SHTS received similar rewards for their remarkable efforts, along with cash awards and medals sponsored by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

As a final honour, each of the top three schools received GH₵ 20,000 from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, reinforcing the national significance of the NSMQ in promoting academic excellence.
