The Ghanaian singer-songwriter, known for his highlife and Afrobeats hits, performed live for a virtual event celebrating African culture.

As part of Google’s “Know Africa” week, a virtual event that showcases the diversity and richness of African culture, the Ghanaian singer-songwriter King Promise gave a live and exclusive performance that delighted his fans and the world.

The performance, which was streamed on YouTube on Jan. 26, 2024, featured some of his hit songs, such as “Slow Down,” “Self,” “Commando,” “10 Toes,” “Chop Life” and “Terminator.” With his smooth vocals, catchy melodies and relatable lyrics, King Promise demonstrated his charisma and versatility in blending highlife, afrobeat and R&B genres.

He was accompanied by a live band in a colorful setting that reflected his vibrant personality and style.

Google’s Know Africa week, which runs from Jan. 25 to 29, 2024, aims to promote the awareness and appreciation of African culture, history and innovation. The event features various online activities, such as workshops, panel discussions, quizzes and performances by other African artists.

King Promise, whose real name is Gregory Bortey Newman, is one of the most popular and acclaimed artists in Ghana and Africa. Following a burst of widespread success in 2018 with tracks like ‘CCTV’, the subsequent year saw Promise share his debut album 'As Promised,' featuring the likes of WizKid and Shatta Wale. An album which positioned him clearly as a breakthrough artist, paving the way for the success of his sophomore album '5 Star,' which came out in July 2022.

He has also worked with some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, Ghanaian rap legend Sarkodie, Nigerian superstar Wizkid, award-winning duo R2Bees, and Afro-fusion pioneer Mr Eazi.

King Promise is currently working on his third album, which is expected to drop later this year and is eagerly awaited by his fans.
