“Goodsin” hitmaker, Olivetheboy signs with Sony Music through Bu Vision Ent

Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation Olivetheboy has signed a deal with Sony Music’s Columbia Records through Bu Vision Ent, a subsidiary label founded by Bu Thiam, the executive vice president of Columbia Records. Olivetheboy, whose real name is Joel Ofori Bonsu, is known for his fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and pop genres, as well as his captivating vocals and lyrics. He has amassed a loyal fan base across the world since his debut in 2021.

The deal was announced on August 09, 2023, on Olivetheboy’s social media accounts, where he expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. He also thanked his label Loop Music/FulLCircL Management Ltd, and Bu Thiam for believing in his dream. He hinted at a grand unveiling on August 16, 2023, with the hashtag #FullCircl.

Olivetheboy joins a roster of African music legends who have signed to Sony Music, such as D’banj, Davido, Wizkid, and Angelique Kidjo. He caught the attention of Sony Music after the release of his hit single “Goodsin” in May 2023, which became one of the most streamed Ghanaian songs of the year. The song also earned him recognition as one of Ghana’s hottest artists of 2023 so far.

Bu Thiam, who is also the brother of global superstar Akon and has worked with artists like Kanye West and Rihanna, flew to Ghana in June to meet Olivetheboy and his management team and finalize the deal. He praised Olivetheboy’s talent and vision and said he was looking forward to working with him.

The signing of Olivetheboy to Sony Music’s Columbia Records is a major milestone for the Ghanaian Afrobeats star, and will give Olivetheboy access to a wider audience and more resources to further his musical career.

His EP titled “Avana” is available for streaming or downloading. Check it out.
