Lyrical Joe is a Ghanaian rapper who has been making waves in the music scene with his lyrical prowess and rap skills. He has won several awards, including the Best Rap Performance of the Year at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). But he is not just a rapper, he is also a storyteller who uses his music as a medium to share his life experiences with his fans and listeners.
His latest project, titled "Photo Album," is a testament to his artistic vision and creativity. The album, which was released on March 17, 2023, is a 15-track masterpiece that features some of the top artists in Ghana, such as Efya, Medikal, Darkovibes, E.L, Sefa, and A-Q, from Nigeria. Each track is like a photo that captures a moment or a memory from Lyrical Joe's journey, ranging from his struggles and challenges to his triumphs and achievements.
The album opens with "Intro (Two Eagles)," where Lyrical Joe sets the tone for the rest of the album with his confident and witty bars; it also pays tribute to some of his lost fellows. He then proceeds to deliver some motivational and inspirational messages on tracks like "Hustle & Ambition" featuring Efya, "Bottles," "Me to Me," and "See Size." He also showcases his versatility and diversity on tracks like "Judas" featuring Medikal, where he switches to a trap beat and addresses some of the betrayals he has faced in the industry; "Flex" featuring E.L, where he blends rap and afrobeat to create a catchy and groovy tune; and "Blessed" featuring Darkovibes, where he expresses his gratitude for his life and career.
Lyrical Joe also touches on some social and religious issues on tracks like "Amen," where he prays for God's protection and guidance; “Street Prophets” featuring A-Q, a song that portrays a preacher who brings the gospel to the trenches and assures the people of their worth; "A Gate," where he sings and raps about someone very dear to him; He also displays his lyrical dexterity and wordplay on tracks like "ABCD," where he raps using some of the letters of the English alphabet; "Hmmhm," where he raps on some kind of funky beat; and "Self," in which he delivers verses on self-awareness and the importance of gaining personal insight, among others.
The second to last song on the album is dubbed “Cover,” featuring Sefa, and it’s a beautiful ballad that contains some amusing wordplay as well.
