Rihanna's single “Lift Me Up,” featured in the Marvel movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

“Lift Me Up” By Rihanna

Global icon, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Robyn Rihanna Fenty better known as Rihanna makes her highly-anticipated return to the airwaves today, Friday (October 28), with “Lift Me Up,” the lead single from the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever original soundtrack.

The 34-year-old singer announced her first new single in six years, writing the title of the song “Lift Me Up” and the release date 10.28.22 along with a 14-second clip in a Twitter post.

After previewing the song, Rihanna showed up with her boyfriend, the rapper A$AP Rocky, with whom she gave birth to her first child earlier this year, for the movie's international premiere.

"Lift Me Up," which was co-written by Nigerian singer Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and Ryan Coogler, is a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who played King T'Challa in the first Black Panther film and later died unexpectedly of colon cancer in 2020. Produced by Göransson, "Lift Me Up" was recorded in five different countries.

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” said Tems. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor,” she added.

“Lift Me Up” is out today, Friday (October 28) via Rihanna’s own Westbury Road label in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records.

The release of “Lift Me Up” marks the start of Rihanna's big return to the music industry, which will culminate in her headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show at Super Bowl LVII, on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

As announced by NFL, this marks the first year of a partnership between Apple Music, the NFL and Roc Nation.
